The story
One day Jesus was teaching crowds of people in Judea, near the river Jordan. The grown-ups asked him big, serious questions, and he answered them all, patiently and wisely. Then some people came along the road bringing their little children, babies in their arms and small ones holding their hands. They hoped Jesus would touch the children and bless them.
But the disciples stepped in the way and scolded them. Perhaps they thought Jesus was too busy, or that children were too small, too noisy or too wiggly. When Jesus saw it, he was not pleased at all. He told them to let the little children come to him and not to stop them, because the kingdom of God belongs to ones like these. And the children ran to him.
Then Jesus said something surprising to the grown-ups: whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will not enter it. Little children trust the people who love them and come running with open arms, and that is how Jesus wants us all to come to God. He took the children in his arms, laid his hands on their heads and blessed them. Not one was too small for Jesus.
