The story
Daniel lived far from home, in the kingdom of Babylon, and he served King Darius well. Three times every day, Daniel knelt by his window and prayed to God.
Some jealous men tricked the king into making a law: for thirty days, no one could pray to anyone but the king. Anyone who broke the law would be thrown to the lions. Daniel knew about the law, but he still prayed to God, just as he always had.
The king was sad, but he had to keep his law, and Daniel was put in the lions’ den. All night the king couldn’t sleep. In the morning he ran to the den and called out, and Daniel answered: God had sent his angel to shut the lions’ mouths. The king was so glad, and he told everyone in his kingdom to honor Daniel’s God.
