The story

Jesus grew up in Nazareth with Mary and Joseph. Joseph was a carpenter, and Jesus learned to work beside him. Mary cared for their home, and the family prayed together, just like families do today.

Every year they traveled to Jerusalem for the feast of Passover. When Jesus was twelve, the family started home, but Jesus stayed behind without them knowing. After a day of walking, Mary and Joseph couldn’t find him, and they hurried back to the city, worried.

On the third day they found him in the Temple, listening to the teachers and asking them questions. Everyone was amazed at his answers. Jesus told his mother he had to be in his Father’s house. Then he went home with them to Nazareth, obeyed them, and grew in wisdom and in grace.
